I'm a big kid now.
In many ways.
So tomorrow's my third day/second week of college. I know my way around the Chicago public transit system fairly well now, having taken the wrong bus on the first day (I took the northbound 125 instead of the south; wound up at Water Tower Place instead of Union Station. That's a good 15 miles in the wrong direction.). I took some stuff out of my supply kit so I only have to lug around 20 pounds of stuff instead of 40.
I spent most of today finishing up our first project for Fundamentals of Design.... holy fuck, talk about TEDIOUS. After I FINALLY finished inking the SAME LINE OVER AND OVER AGAIN, I was inking in the border and my pen slipped... I HAD TO DO THE WHOLE DAMN THING AGAIN FROM SCRATCH. And then I couldn't remember how he wanted us to mount the three rectangles... were the top and bottom ones supposed to be an inch from the middle and 1.5" from the edge, or 1.25" all around? Composition and measurements are a HUGE part of the grade in that class, so I elected to walk to the class early to ask him (hope he's there and doesn't have a class) or someone else what we're supposed to do. Why the hell didn't I write that down?
And the other way I'm big and stuff: I thought I was supposed to go to McDonald's at 11 today. When I was putting on my uniform... another "holy fuck"... I could hardly button my pants. Have I really gained that much weight? I'm at 125 now, so that's a yes- I've gained roughly 20 pounds since April. Good God. Am I losing my metabolism, or are my out-of-control eating habits taking effect now that I don't have a gym class any more? At least I get some walking in two days a week. That's more than I got all summer.
Yes, I THOUGHT I was working 11-3. I was originally supposed to, but then Evaldas took me off the schedule and never told me. So I corseted myself into those pants for nothing except half a medium fry. (Chris gave it to me as a consolation gift while I was screaming my head off in the lobby at Evaldas who wasn't there.)
Gawd, I don't want to get up tomorrow. I get up at 4am on school days to catch the 6:37 train out to Chicago. It sucks ass knowing that your car and all the stuff in it is so far away. I feel secure knowing my car is nearby and I can get where I need to go whenever I want. I hate being at the mercy of public transportation and the fact that the Mart is a dead zone during non-rush periods... the buses there run only about 6am-9am and 2:45pm-7pm. I can't get where I need to go without walking or paying a shit ton of money for a cab, and it sucks ass. So why didn't I go to the Schaumburg school? Because the Schaumburg school isn't on a train line- I'd have to take the 355 and pay tolls and park and shit. It's not like there's anywhere to go in Schaumburg... my car would be more of a security blanket than anything practical. In Chicago, I get some (kinda) fresh air (breathe in through your mouth- you can taste the smog!) and exercise, and it's a huge cultural center... being in the Mart kicks ass. The interior design students get to go look in all the furniture stores where the general public isn't allowed- you have to be a buyer for a retail chain to go in. I've seen the stuff they've got in the public shops downstairs... serious kickass modern stuff. I want that egg-shaped freestanding bathtub. Not that I take baths, but it looks so cool. And I walk past where Mancow works. (Yes, Q101 is in the Mart. No, I've never met Mancow personally. I don't really want to.)
Plus I've got a choice of where to eat- the Mart has a pretty nice food court. There's a Baskin-Robbins, a Jamba Juice, Great American Steak & Potato Company, Lai Lai Chinese Express, Quizno's, Arby's, and a Japanese place (they don't serve their eel nigiri warm, though T_T ). Too bad taxes in Chicago are insane... stuff costs WAAAY more there, so I can't get a whole lot to eat. Just enough to munch on while I read what was assigned for English and put the finishing touches on Fundamentals of Drawing homework. Get a refill on my coke, and walk the mile or so to the other campus. That's gonna suck in January, though. (gonks at cold wind blowing off the lake) It's supposed to be about 60ish tomorrow.
College kicks so much ass.
